De plus en plus risible : la chaine CBS a admis avoir menti (sur le
reportage présenté durant la campagne électorale par le journaliste Dan
Rather dans '60 Minutes'), il y a eu quelques sanctions (4 licenciements à
CBS), mais c'était "pour faire de l'audience" ("pour prendre de vitesse la
concurrence", "par esprit compétitif"), et non un "political bias". CBS
n'avait donc pas l'intention de diffamer le Président Bush (pourtant,
Bernard Goldberg, de CBS, avoue lui-même le contraire, cf. ci-dessous). On
est censé leur faire confiance désormais ? Ce n'est pas ce que pense Howard
Kurtz, du Washington Post : "It's going to take awhile for CBS to get over a
high-profile blunder."

document examiners became two and ultimately one, who opined only on one
signature in one document. Nevertheless, the Segment contained an
unsupported declaration of authenticity.
- Competitive zeal - the desire to be the first to break what was seen as a
significant story - fed the rush to air to the point where holding the story
to vet it more thoroughly became unthinkable because some other news
organization might surely break the story.
- The person relied on as the so-called "trump card" to confirm the content
of the Killian documents was not shown any documents before the Segment
aired. He was merely read some or all of the content of the documents over
the telephone. The Panel finds this unacceptable as a basis for provenance
of a story that turned on the authenticity of pieces of paper. In the rush
to air, basic reporting suffered.

think when you're working with investigative producers -- and it's the
scariest thing in the world -- I've worked with them -- when they fall in
love with the story, head for the hills. Because you may have big, big
problems, as we see here. But what I'm saying is, they didn't simply fall in
love with a great story. They would have never -- I know these people, I
know these people. And even more than knowing these people, I know the
culture at CBS News. They would have never fallen in love with a story that
made the other side look as bad as they made George Bush. They just wouldn't
have."

"The reforms suggested by the CBS News-paid 'independent' panel will help
CBS News, but they will not solve the fundamental problem, which is that CBS
News is dominated from page boy to president with Manhattan liberals who are
out of touch with mainstream America. Does anyone really believe CBS News
would have aired phony documents smearing President Bush, shortly before a
close election, had a single conservative been anywhere near the newsroom to
point out the obvious flaws in the story? The report, at pages 4-6, lists a
devastating set of 16 egregious errors made by CBS News in airing the false
story and then defending it for nearly two weeks. Such error layered upon
error can only happen when there is a rigid political orthodoxy that not
only does not encourage dissent, it does not even recognize that dissent
might exist. CBS News ratings are third out of three and falling because its
newsroom is an insular and conformist environment that believes the liberal
myths of left-wing enclaves where Michael Moore is taken seriously. CBS News
has no respect for conservatives, people of faith, or people who live east
of Berkeley and west of Manhattan. If Black Rock wants to restore
credibility, integrity, and ratings to CBS News, it should do the following:
- First, fire Dan Rather. Even the panel seemed stunned that Rather 'still
believes the content of the documents is accurate' (Report, p. 26).
- Second, CBS News should adopt a diversity program focused on introducing
diversity of thought at CBS News. People of faith, conservatives, and people
from the Heartland of America should all be considered for jobs at CBS News.
- Third, CBS News should add a broadcasting location in the American
Heartland, and its Evening News should either be solely or jointly anchored
from Middle America, every night.
"But make no mistake: if CBS News makes only superficial reforms while
maintaining its liberal advocacy 'DNA,' Americans will continue to turn away
from CBS News."

Votre tentative de détourner la conversation sur une critique de la seule
chaine de tous les Etats-Unis d'Amérique qui ne soit pas pro-Démocrates est
assez pitoyable, car celle-ci ne fonctionne absolument pas comme les autres,
elle n'a pas le même public (c'est une chaine plus populaire). Cela ne remet
pas en cause une vérité connue de tous : les médias américains sont surtout
situés en Californie et sur la côte Est, et sont acquis aux idées des
Démocrates, d'où la perte de crédibilité ces dernières années (même le Wall

believability, widening the partisan gaps and driving down the overall
ratings of several major news organizations. In 1998, 44% of Democrats and
39% of Republicans gave CNN very high ratings for believability. By 2002,
the partisan gap had widened significantly: 45% of Democrats and 32% of
Republicans gave CNN the highest rating. In the current survey, CNN's rating
among Democrats remains at 45%, while falling further among Republicans (to

More surprising is the sharp decline among members of both parties but

proportion of Democrats (29%) give the NewsHour high marks for
believability, compared with only 12% of Republicans.
Even C-SPAN, the non-profit, public affairs network has seen its ratings
become more politicized. In 1998, Republicans were slightly more likely than
Democrats to view C-SPAN as highly believable. By 2000, the balance of
opinion had shifted, though Republicans and Democrats still had fairly
similar views about C-SPAN. Today significantly more Democrats than
Republicans give C-SPAN high marks for believability (36% vs. 23%,
respectively).
Credibility ratings for the major news networks have not changed as
dramatically in recent years, largely because they have long been divided
along partisan lines. In the case of NBC News, the partisan gap is as large
as it was in 1998 (13 points), and partisan differences in evaluations of
ABC News have grown only marginally. But ratings for CBS News have become
more partisan: currently, 34% of Democrats and just 15% of Republicans view

As a consequence of the increasing partisanship, the most trusted news
sources for Democrats, Republicans and independents vary widely. Three news
organizations, CNN, 60 Minutes and C-SPAN make the list of the most trusted
sources for all three groups."

Non. Je vous parlais :
1/ de crédibilité (60 Minutes était n° 1, ce n'est plus le cas aujourd'hui,
et ce scandale rejaillit sur tous les médias, mêmes ceux qui sont honnêtes),
2/ Fox News n'a pas relayé ces allégations éhontées dans les mêmes
proportions que d'autres,
3/ votre manière de ressortir cette chaine sans arrêt prouve que vous ne
l'avez jamais vue (elle n'a absolument pas la même cible ni la même
crédibilité, c'est une chaine populaire et privilégiant l'émotion,
"populiste" dira-t-on dans l'Europe aristocratique : il serait tout aussi
absurde de mettre sur le même plan Jon Stewart et Lou Dobbs,...), et vous
fiez trop au commentaire des médias de gauche européens (aux USA, tout le
monde la regarde, même si l'augmentation de son audience est due à ce que
davantage de conservateurs l'ont rejoint ces dernières années : en 1998, son
public se composait de 24 % de Républicains, 36 % de Démocrates et 33 %
d'Indépendants ; aujourd'hui, c'est 40 % de Républicains pour 30 % de
Démocrates -> comparez avec les programmes des autres chaines)
4/ les médias américains dits "nationaux" sont, effectivement, plus proche
des idées des liberals (progressistes) que de celles des conservatives
(conservateurs), tout le monde le sait, ça se voit en toutes circonstances,
et des journaux comme New York Times ou Washington Post ont publiquement
soutenu John Kerry durant la campagne électorale (2-3 exemples : à les
entendre, les seuls bons présidents seraient les démocrates (Roosevelt,
Kennedy et même Clinton), jamais un mot aimable pour le grand Ronald Reagan,
Bush décrit comme un idiot arrogant et fanatique religieux, Star-Tribune l'a
même comparé à Hilter (!), l'agressivité de certains journalistes lorsqu'ils
reçoivent des conservateurs chez eux, dont O'Reilly pércisément, ou la
manière de traiter l'économie, les chiffres de mi-mandat de Bush étaient les
mêmes que ceux de Clinton en 1996, et le traitement médiatique était que ça
allait mal, alors que l'inflation, le chômage, la croissance... étaient bons
et que les prévisions étaient favorables, autre exemple, quand George Bush
s'est rendu auprès des soldats en Iraq pour Thanksgiving, les médias l'ont
salué pendant une heure, et puis, hop! dès qu'Hillary Clinton a pris la
parole ils ont relancé une polémique en disant que c'était une mauvaise
décision etc.) : j'ai cité dans mon article le point de vue de BERNARD
GOLDBERG, qui travaille à CBS, il l'a admis lui-même que Rather avait des
idées politiques et que la commission avait été trop pusillanime vis-à-vis
de sa chaine de télé (il a aussi écrit des livres intéressants où il révèle

5/ les progressistes contrôlent l'info nationale de masse, mais les
conservateurs s'informent davantage avec la presse et les stations
locales/régionales (moins marquées idéologiquement)

6/ en ce qui me concerne, je suis partisan de la diversité idéologique dans
l'information : c'est l'hégémonie de certaines personnes non-représentatives
sur les médias qui pose problème dès l'instant où il en résulte une
condescendance pour les opinions alternatives (de même qu'en France, la
presse est beaucoup trop parisienne)

Tu es un drôle, j'ai nié les faits ? Je fais remarquer que Rather a
déconné, il a été condamné, CBS aussi, et c'est normal. Ce qui est
anormal, c'est qu'en face, chez Fox News, ils dorment encore peinards.

Mais oui, mais oui. C'est bon, on les a comprises tes méthodes: ce sont
exactement les mêmes que celles que tu prétends dénoncer.
