bon, je regarde chez dell quel est ma carte graphique :

ça donne :
256MB NVIDIA® Quadro NVS 110M TurboCache™
mais aussi :
Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 (Up to 224MB shared5)
donc il y a deux puces pour la partie graphique ???
par ailleurs, le site dell donne :
Display
WXGA+ (1440 x 900 resolution)
WXGA (1280 x 800 resolution)
avec (X)Ubuntu je n'ai jamais vu que le mode 1280X800
bon, je vais donc chez Mr NVIDIA :

ce qui me semble correct ???

ferme le X avant d'installer, par exemple "service gdm stop"
Ubuntu propose un driver Nvidia, que donne-t-il?
Non. Il y a l'un ou l'autre, suivant les options.
Pareil: Suivant la dalle installée.

D'aller chez Nvidia.
Que donne un lspci ? Il doit y avoir une ligne de type :
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV34 [GeForce FX 5200] (rev a1)
(ça c'est sur mon fixe équipé d'une GeForce FX 5200)
Si tu vois une ligne avec Nvidia dedans --> pilote NVidia.
Si tu vois une ligne contenant VGA et Intel dedans --> Pilote Intel.
Si la carte est Intel : Pas de problème, le pilote est installé d'Office.
Si la carte est NVidia : Lancer l'utilitaire "pilote propriétaire"
(ou "pilotes supplémentaires") qui doit être soit dans le panneau de contrôle,
soit dans le menu "Système/Administration". Elle te guidera...

ben d'après ce que dit Sergio, il ne vaut mieux pas installer alors.
J'avais, dans ma version précédente de xubuntu installé un driver
nvidia/ubuntu (pas de chez nvidia), c'est peut-être ce qui a fait
déconner ???
allez savoir...
Moi j'installe le pilote nvidia proposé par Ubuntu, sinon rien...
