Tout le monde l'attendait au tournant, voici donc la nouvelle version du client mail le plus prometteur: Thunderbird 0.2.
Bien qu'il soit le client email le plus utilisé au monde, le principal reproche que l'on puisse faire à Outlook Express concerne sa permissivité aux vers (worms) et son cruel manque d'évolution (à quand remonte la dernière version de Outlook Express '). Mozilla Thunderbird est le client mail indépendant de la suite Internet libre Mozilla et pourrait bien séduire quelques utilisateurs déçus de Outlook Express.
Un point caractéristique de Mozilla Thunderbird est qu'il n'utilise pas le moteur HTML de Internet Explorer pour afficher les messages HTML... contrairement à la (presque) totalité des autres clients alternatifs comme Incredimail, c'est Gecko, le moteur de Mozilla qui s'occupe d'afficher les messages HTML, assurant une protection un peu plus importante contre les worms.
Nouveautés:
- Footprint and Performance
Since 0.1, we have made excellent strides in reducing code footprint and improving performance. The download file size for Windows has been reduced by 1.5MB and is substantially faster than 0.1.
- Improved Default Theme
Arvid Axelsson continues to improve the crisp, fresh, and attractive
theme based on Quote, his amazing theme for Mozilla Firebird.
Updates include new icons for the options dialog, and improvements
to the icons for both the mail and compose toolbars. Also added are new
taskbar icons for Windows and dock icons for Mac OS X.
- Improved Spell Checker
The spell checker now ignores quoted text when composing a reply (HTMLand plain text), and also ignores any URL inside the message body.
- Redesigned Options Dialog
The 'Options' dialog got theme updates (see above), a streamlined
'Advanced' panel, and a new 'Attachments' panel for managing behaviour when
opening
mail attachments.
- Improved customization
The Compose window toolbar now supports a 'Quote' button. The Mail window toolbar now supports a 'Previous' button.
- Improved Stability
This release is based on the Mozilla App-Suite 1.5 beta branch.
Pour rappel, ce logiciel est gratuit, en open source, ne contient pas de spyware et est valable pour les plates formes suivantes: Windows, Linux avec GTK2 et XFT et Mac OS X.
Note: Pour installer cette nouvelle version, vous devez
éffacer l'ancien répertoire "Mozilla Thunderbird", mais
pas le répertoire "Profile".
