Valve a récemment proposé de télécharger le SteamVR Performance Test, un outil qui permet de tester si notre PC est prêt à accueillir la réalité virtuelle. Il s'agit d'une démo technique tournant avec le moteur graphique Source 2.
Plusieurs dossiers comportent la mention « HL3 », mais il est également sous-entendu qu'une version de Half-Life 2 tournant avec le Source Engine 2 serait prévue.
Bien entendu, ce ne sont que des suppositions pour le moment, Valve n'ayant rien annoncé au sujet du développement de Half-Life 3, ni même d'un remake du second épisode avec leur nouvelle version de leur moteur graphique maison.
