Several Major Upgrades Enable Delivery of Packet-Based PTP in Key New Industries and Applications

Neuchâtel, Switzerland. September 6, 2017. Oscilloquartz, an ADVA Optical Networking company, today announced several major upgrades to its OSA 5420 Series that now make it the industry's most agile synchronization toolkit. The new features combine the delivery of synchronization over IPv6, support of ITU-T G.8275.2, expanded use of all major global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) and increased security. Collectively, these new capabilities mean that the OSA 5420 can now be used across an even wider range of industries to deliver robust, secure and packet-based IEEE 1588 PTP synchronization. As with all Oscilloquartz products, the key focus is on helping service providers to leverage their existing networks to meet increasingly advanced and progressively stringent synchronization demands in an operationally efficient and cost-effective way.

"What we're announcing here isn't simply a product upgrade; it's a path, a light for service providers to follow. Our OSA 5420 Series has been specifically enhanced to help our customers cost-effectively drive highly precise synchronization throughout their existing networks without the need for major upgrade cycles," said Gil Biran, general manager, Oscilloquartz. "We're the only vendor in the marketplace who is working hand-in-hand with the industry to find unique ways to maximize the potential of current build-outs. Unlike other vendors, we're advocating that service providers avoid time-consuming, costly and disruptive forklift upgrades and focus on fully utilizing their deployed infrastructures. Our OSA 5420 Series is unique in this respect. It removes roadblocks, expands possibilities and ensures we're delivering timing and synchronization technology wherever it's needed."

The key to helping service providers derive greater value from their existing networks comes with the support of ITU-T G.8275.2. With this, the OSA 5420 Series can deliver time and phase synchronization over partially aware and even unaware networks. The OSA 5420 Series goes even further though and can now also deliver phase synchronization over IPv6. This capability comes as a direct response to service providers who are experiencing scalability challenges with small cell deployments and Remote PHY devices in cable networks. What's more, in order to protect against DoS attacks, the OSA 5420 Series now includes new security and prevention features that deliver enhanced protection directly on the hardware.

Another key update to the OSA 5420 Series is support for the European Space Agency's Galileo GNSS. The addition of Galileo to the OSA 5420 Series means that the technology now comprehensively supports every major GNSS constellation - GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou and Galileo. Another key feature here is that the device can be configured to operate with dual constellations. This dual support provides a far more robust and resilient solution than anything previously available. And with access to more satellites than ever before, the OSA 5420 Series offers even greater levels of timing accuracy, availability and resiliency.

"This new feature set isn't simply a minor upgrade; it's a key development that propels our OSA 5420 Series ahead of any competing technology. It's truly a major milestone for this product and opens up new markets and new opportunities for our team," commented Nir Laufer, product line director, Oscilloquartz. "Our team has injected new levels of agility into this device to make a highly powerful synchronization toolkit. We've listened carefully to people's frustrations and limitations and developed a solution that exceeds in every way. It can be used across more industries and more applications than ever before. Just look at what it can do for the cable industry to see evidence of this. There is simply no other technology that can deliver these levels of packet-based PTP timing and phase synchronization. Our OSA 5420 Series will prove to be a game changer."
