Apres moult tests, je m'appercois en fait que j'ai pas bien du comprendre
la logique de la chose.
je suis repassse a plusieurs reprises par un 'xorgconfig' afin d'avoir un
fichier le plus generique possible, repasse a plusieurs reprises egalement
par un dpkg-reconfigure aussi, et dans tout les cas, rien n'y fait.
impossible d'avoir mon serveur X bien configure comme il faut.
lspci me donne ca:
Matrox Graphics, Inc. MGA G200 AGP (rev 03)
Mon moniteur est un Hyundai Image Quest Q995.
comment dois-je m'y prendre si je veux avoir les drivers bien charges de
maniere a pouvoir tourner en haute resolution et avec une profondeur de
couleur digne de ce nom? sachant qu'a un moment j'ai eu une configuration
qui marchait bien, et qui s'est mise a ne plus marcher suite a un "apt-get
upgrade" (mais on m'a dit que cela n'avait aucun rapport).

suite aux conseils qui m'ont ete donnes ici meme, j'ai demarre mon pc
avec un live cd (en l'occurence celui d'ubuntu).
apres moults temps de chargement, Gnome est enfin apparu a l'ecran en
resolution 1600 * 1400 et avec un vrai taux de rafraichissement digne
de ce nom (donc c'est effectivement possible avec ma carte graphique)
donc je me suis empresse de copier tout le /etc de la distrib live,
afin de pouvoir comparrer dans un premier temps les fichiers de conf
du serveur X. apres avoir corrige les quelques differences qui
faisaient planter betement, je me suis retrouve quasiment au meme
point....
impossible d'arriver a demarrer le serveur X avec un vrai driver digne
de ce nom.

tout mes comptes user et root, et j'ai reformate mdrrr
ui je sais c'est pas bien faut pas faire ca et tout. et maintenant je
me tate pour savoir ce que je vais reinstaller dessus.
en gros mes besoins sont surtout ceux d'un developpeur:
emacs, compilation, lib * -dev, environnement graphique pour tester
mes jeux en xlib/sdl, etc...
avant j'etait en testing, et j'hesite maintenant entre unstable et une
ubuntu (mais j'ai pu remarquer que certains paquets d'ubuntu etaient
un peu fait a l'arrache....)
que me conseillez vous?
