Shamon McDavis
In late February 2010, a relative of Kelli Walton saw Shamon McDavis climbing into a window at Walton’s home.

Walton’s family said today they believed McDavis was there to hurt Walton, his long-time girlfriend, who angered McDavis by having an infant two weeks earlier that was fathered by another man.
“We believe that he would have done something to her then,” Mary Walton, Kelli Walton’s mother, said today.
They also warned McDavis that if anything happened to Kelli Walton, they’d know he would be to blame.

A week later, on March 4, Kelli Walton was shot to death in her Mount Airy home and the 3-week-old child in her arms was shot in the head.

Today McDavis was sent to prison for 23 years to life for those incidents.

“I’m not certain he’ll ever be released from prison,” Hamilton County Common Pleas Court Judge Ralph “Ted” Winkler said after imposing the sentence.

McDavis and Kelli Walton, 26, had children together and had dated since she was 15. McDavis, 29, of West Price Hill, got another girlfriend but believed he was the father of Walton’s infant. Her family said she was abducted, blindfolded and stabbed in the stomach while pregnant and they blame McDavis even though no one ever was charged in the incident.

McDavis had no prior criminal record and worked as a manager for a food service company that worked for the Cincinnati Reds. He admitted his 14 years with Walton had many difficulties.

“It was a toxic relationship,” McDavis told the judge.

“I’m far from a bad person,” he said. “However, I do admit I made a terrible mistake.”

Last month, McDavis pleaded guilty as charged to aggravated murder and felonious assault. The infant was grazed by a bullet but quickly recovered.
