and sorry for writing in English, but my French is rather rusty to
non-existent :)
My neighbours would like to receive France 2, 3, 5 and Ô from 5°W on
11,591 GHz V. Dish is aligned correctly as we do get theses channels
using a separate receiver.
However, their Sony TV KDL-37V5800 only displays "Channel not
available". It does receive loads of (I'd say all) other channels from
this satellite, just not these.
Any idea what might be wrong, is there some speciality about these
channels that the TV might have problems with?

Hi,
your dish alignement might not be as good as you expect, or the satellite transponder range doesn't fit...where are you located: UK ? what size is your dish? having the other receiver getting those channels doesn't mean really, as sensitivy on both terminals is different for sure there is another channel 'LCP - La Chaine Parlementaire': do you have the same issue? what about TMC on 11555.00 V ?
cheers, Olivier

we're just north of Hamburg, Germany, using a cheap 60cm dish. I didn't mention that the TV shows excellent signal strength and quality on that transponder (and, unfortunatly, that's the only "meter" I have at hands). However, your reply got me suspecting that the signal might be too strong, so today I tried to turn the dish slightly in order to get a weaker or at least different signal level.
Still no success on France 2 etc, plus the scanning of other single transponders seemed to return weird results, with channels displayed on frequencies where they shouldn't be. Most likely my fault, I am certainly not understanding the concept Sony's designers had in mind with that #§%$! user interface …
After that, I promised I won't ever buy a Sony TV, started a final attempt with a full scan of only the free channels (yesterday, I accidentally had "all channels") - et voilà, some 15 minutes later, France 2, 3, 5, Ô and LCP.
Left it that way, enough is enough :]
Thanks for your input!
