It has always appeared to me to be a case of blind belief that the SFC
repair tool would be a sufficient alternative. As far as I can see
that only
restores modules which appear to be corrupt or missing and does not
have the same effect of re-registering key .dlls during a reboot.
Perhaps we could try deleting the modules that we would like to be
reinitialized but even then it is still not clear that SFC would do
that either.
E.g. I would believe it if I could read a simple statement about it such
as
"when a COM module is replaced its DllInstall and DllRegisterServer
routines will be called." That's probably another test which would be
worth
doing while tracing all SetValue operations with RegMon.
