Écran externe sur portable

Bonjour,
J'ai un vieux portable Compaq Presario 1800 sous Linux Ubuntu, sur
lequel je voudrais brancher un moniteur LCD 16:9. Pour l'instant je n'ai
réussi qu'à avoir un affichage en 4:3, mais je voudrais du 16:9 pour
profiter de toute la largeur de l'écran. Pourriez-vous m'indiquer une
manip simple, si possible, pour arriver à mes fins?

écran ? Démarrage portable fermé ? Log d'Xorg ?
