J'ai un vieux portable Compaq Presario 1800 sous Linux Ubuntu, sur
lequel je voudrais brancher un moniteur LCD 16:9. Pour l'instant je n'ai
réussi qu'à avoir un affichage en 4:3, mais je voudrais du 16:9 pour
profiter de toute la largeur de l'écran. Pourriez-vous m'indiquer une
manip simple, si possible, pour arriver à mes fins?

Alors ça c'est un peu fort ! Tu as bien viré toutes les lignes "1024x768" ?
J'ai trouvé ça dans le man r128 :
Dualhead Note: The video BIOS on some laptops interacts strangely with dualhead. This can result in flickering and problems changing modes on crtc2. If you experience these problems try toggling your laptop's video output switch (e.g., fn-f7, etc.) prior to starting X or switch to another VT and back.
Donc, si tu as une touche pour changer l'écran de sortie, essaye-la pendant le boot pour afficher sur l'écran externe seul (si possible).
Sinon, on peut encore tenter ceci dans la Section Device : Option "Display" "CRT" ou Option "Display" "Mirror" ou Option "Display" "BIOS" (D'ailleurs, rien dans le BIOS concernant la sortie vidéo ?)
et aussi (mais peu d'espoir) Option "PanelWidth" "1920" Option "PanelHeight" "1080" mais : Override the flat panel dimensions in pixels. They are used to program the flat panel registers and normally determined using the video card BIOS. If the wrong dimensions are used, the system may hang.
